INSULATING GLASS COMPONENTS: Sealants
PIB Primary Sealants
Polyisobutylene is used as the primary moisture barrier seal in all dual-seal
insulated units. While PIB has excellent MVT (moisture vapor transmission),
it lacks mechanical strength and needs to be used in conjunction with a secondary
edge sealant such as polyurethane, polysulphide or silicone. ADCO offers a
variety of PIB materials for use in various manufacturing situations. ADCO
PIB sealants can be applied at reduced temperatures which translates into energy
cost savings. Easy dispensing provides improved quality and production rates
as well.
ADCOTHERM PIB offers competitive advantages such as:
- Low MVTR which increases the IG unit life expectancy.
- Low gas permeability which means argon-filled units retain their gas charge longer.
- Increased strength compared to other PIB materials on the market – this helps reduce glass movement during assembly and post production.
- Improved flow rates that support increased production rates without sacrificing performance.
- Reduced application temperatures which requires less energy and further reduced costs
ADCOTHERM PIB can be applied with a variety of application equipment,
from manual operations to high speed automated extruders.
Specific formulations are available depending on your application
process.
